Why use pillow and mattress protectors? Benefits and care explained
Share
Beautiful bedding deserves a little care underneath, too. A pillow or mattress protector is a simple addition that helps keep the things you sleep on fresh and protected.
If you’re wondering what protectors do, whether they affect comfort or how to wash them, here are a few useful answers.
Why use a pillow or mattress protector?
A waterproof protector helps prevent perspiration, spills and stains from reaching your pillow or mattress. It provides a removable, washable surface beneath your pillowcase or fitted sheet.
A pillow protector sits between your pillow and pillowcase. A fitted mattress protector goes over your mattress, beneath the fitted sheet.
Will waterproof protection feel noisy or uncomfortable?
Protect-A-Bed’s Miracle Layer® is designed to be quiet and breathable. It keeps liquids out while allowing heat and humidity to pass through, combining everyday protection with comfort.
Which protector should I choose?
Think about the surface you prefer, the protection you need and the size of your pillow or mattress.
Casa Bamboo Jersey
Casa combines 70% bamboo-derived viscose and 30% cotton for a smooth, soft surface with breathable, moisture-wicking comfort. Its mattress protector has a stretch fitted skirt for a secure fit.
Elite Tencel™ Jersey
Elite has a smooth, 100% Tencel™ lyocell sleeping surface that helps manage moisture and regulate temperature. The Elite mattress protector also provides waterproof protection across the top and all four sides.
Both ranges include coordinating pillow protectors. Check each product’s dimensions and mattress-depth guidance before choosing.
Will a protector help me stay cooler?
Fabric and breathability can influence how comfortable your bed feels. Elite Tencel™ helps manage moisture and regulate temperature, while Casa Bamboo Jersey offers breathable, moisture-wicking comfort.
These features support comfort, but a protector does not guarantee cooler or uninterrupted sleep. Your sheets, duvet, room temperature and personal preferences also play a part.
How often should I wash my protector?
Protect-A-Bed recommends washing before first use and at least monthly. Always follow the sewn-in care label on your individual product.
How do I wash and dry it?
Follow your protector’s care label for washing and drying temperatures. Protect-A-Bed advises washing and tumble drying with other bed linen or towels.
Avoid bleach and ironing, which can damage the waterproof backing. Take care not to overheat the protector, and make sure it is thoroughly dry before putting it back on the bed or storing it.
